Etson Caminha
Born in 1984 in Lospalos, Timor-Leste, Etson is one of the best known and most accomplished musicians of his generation. He plays bass guitar in the well-known band Galaxy, one of the only Timorese acts to have been invited to perform at international festivals. (Darwin Festival in 2006 & 2008; the Sines Festival in Portugal, 2010; and Macau in 2019). He is also one of Timor's most creative and in-demand percussionists.
A veteran of the Arte Moris free art school, he established and taught in the music department there. He founded and organized NOISE Timor and currently he is busy with anything related to Experimental Sound Art which NOISE Timor established. Etson distinguishes himself as a multi-genre artist who incorporates traditional instruments into creative performances; and as an organizer with the respect from all sides necessary to bring people from different realms together. He is regularly involved in voluntary work for smaller public art events. He also helped found the LANTAVA Festival which is held in his hometown, Lospalos.
After years of dedicated work he is finally being formally recognized as an important part of the cultural life of Timor-Leste; he has collaborated with many artists in country and abroad (Australia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia). He is married and a father of 3 children.
